Since the early days of his career, Chris Gabehart has had the desire to compete in racing on a professional level. With the support of his family, more than half of his life have been dedicated to the execution of that goal. From the onset of his racing career, his father taught him that detail is the key to maximizing performance. That mindset has been the cornerstone for his entire career and has brought him to where he is today. At the age of twelve, he competed in his first full season of go-kart racing on the dirt ovals of Kentucky. Hand in hand with his family, he learned both how to race on the track and how to prepare his equipment to race off of the track.
From 1995 - 2000, his karting career would amass 1 ESPN2 "Saturday Night Lightning" Championship, 1 WKA Dirt Oval National Championship, 4 WKA Pavement Oval National Championships and 1 WKA National Oval Drivers Championship. Clearly Chris was showing the world that he was more than the average young racer, he is truly something special.
Early in his racing career, Chris realized the importance of not only doing what it takes to be the best driver he can be, but also doing whatever it takes to give him the best chance to win as a driver. With this in mind, he realized the vital tools that had been laid before him in his education and took it upon himself to work diligently within the classroom to try and learn everything he could about what made racecars work. In 1999 this vision carried him to West Lafayette, IN and the world reknown Purdue University where he would eventually gain his degree in Mechanical Engineering in May of 2005.
In 2000 it was time for him to make the next step in his racing career into the USAC and NAMARS National Midget Series. For the next 2 years, He gained valuable pavement experience at the next level and got his first hands on experience with a suspended vehicle, furthering his knowledge base both as a driver and as a chassis analyst.
The 2003 season lead him into the seat of his first late model stock car in races throughout the Midwest. In 2004, Chris competed full time in the Sunoco Super Series Super Late Model Division (now known as the CRA Super Series). He earned the Rookie of the Year Championship Title 2 wins, 4 fast times and finished 5th overall in his first full season.
The 2005 and 2006 Seasons would bring many super late model victories and fast times to his resume at tracks like Winchester Speedway, O’Reilly Raceway Park and Salem Speedway. The 2005 season also brought with it a few coveted awards as he was voted the CRA Sportsman of the Year in the CRA series; and voted by fans as Speed51's Most Popular Short Track Driver.
In 2007 he competed fulltime in the CRA Super Series for the first time since 2005 and compiled 4 fast times, and a series leading 3 wins en route to being the series champion. It was such a dominating performance that following his $10,000 win in the Inaugural Circle Track Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park, Chris was named the series champion without even needing to participate in the series finale.
2008 saw him take a more focused approach towards the business side of racing becoming a crew chief and consultant for several teams across the country. In his spare time, he prepared a car to run some of the big end of the year races for himself and finally captured one of the most coveted trophies of them all; The All American 400 in Nashville, TN.
2009 has brought even more changes to his life moving him to Atlanta, GA to take on the role of team manager for Reaid Motorsports. Chris has always been one to set trends rather than follow them and saw this opportunity to be one of great promise in many categories. One thing can be for sure, success will surely find him in this venture as it has everywhere else he has gone.
